The property, which is now owned by the Municipality of Esbjerg and is made available to "Bogtrykmuseet in Esbjerg", was built in 1905 as the headquarters of Niels Hedegaard's Egg Packing Company. The front house was inhabited by Hedegaard and family. In the basement a butter packing room had been organized. At that time eggs and butter were major export products for England. In 1953 blacksmith I.C. Nielsen bought the property, which was then used as a smithy. In 1978 the Municipality of Esbjerg took over the house, and on November 1st 1979 "Esbjerg Typographical Guild" took over the right to use the building and established "Bogtrykmuseet in Esbjerg", which was opened in 1981.
